EAE KMG103 KNX/Modbus Gateway: Integrated PSU & GRMS Solution for Hotels

The EAE KMG103 KNX/Modbus Gateway is a specialized, multi-functional device developed to drastically reduce costs and complexity in Guest Room Management Systems (GRMS) for hotels and serviced apartments. It acts as a powerful bridge between the local KNX line and the central Modbus TCP line.

The KMG103 is an extreme cost-saver as it uniquely integrates several essential components: it includes an in-built 640mA KNX power supply (PSU), eliminating the need for a separate PSU in each room. Furthermore, it connects directly to the Modbus TCP line, meaning IP Routers are not required for each room’s topology.

With its advanced logic functions, the KMG103 manages energy saving without relying on a physical card holder, guaranteeing energy optimization based on occupancy without compromising the guest experience.

1. Cost-Saving Integration and Connectivity

The KMG103 KNX/Modbus Gateway replaces several devices in the room topology, offering a significant reduction in room budget (Card Holder, Power Supply, IP Router, and Tunneling connection) and simplifying installation:

Core Integration Features:

  • Integrated Power Supply (PSU): Available with  640mA in-built PSU options, negating the need for an additional KNX power supply unit in the room.
  • Direct Modbus TCP Access: The device connects directly to the Modbus TCP line, removing the requirement for costly KNXnet/IP Routers for room-level networking.
  • KNXnet/IP Tunnelling: Supports up to 4 simultaneous Tunnelling connections, enabling remote commissioning and monitoring of the KNX line via ETS5/6’s “Group Monitor.”
  • Inputs and Door Integration: Equipped with 2dry contact inputs (ideal for door or window contacts) and offers Doorlock Integration with leading door access brands.

2. GRMS Advanced Logic and Scene Control

The KMG103 executes advanced logic functions and 4 different scenes based on occupancy information. These scenes can be customized via GRMS software and maintain system operation even if the main visualization software has a problem.

Logic Functions and Scenes:

  • Pre-Welcome Scene: Activates desired lighting and settings as soon as the guest enters the room.
  • Welcome Scene: Permits full usage of lighting, HVAC, shading, and sockets while the guest is in the room.
  • Leave Scene: Activated after the guest leaves and a defined period elapses. All lighting, sockets, and AC are switched off or set to a desired energy-saving mode.
  • Check Out Scene: Activated via GRMS software and hotel PMS integration, setting the room to its deepest energy-saving state.
  • Air Conditioning Scenario: Utilizes the 2 dry contact inputs (door/window) to automatically set the AC to a reduced setting or turn it off when a window or balcony door is opened. The AC is restored when the door/window is closed, offering guaranteed energy saving.
